Welcome to IGNITE Stafford

Stafford County is rapidly growing due to being within commuting distance to larger metropolitan areas. Stafford is located approximately sixty miles south of Washington, DC. The student population of 26,582 has a socioeconomic status of 17% free/reduced lunch. This student population is comprised of:
- 9% Hispanic
- 20% Black
- 64% White
- 3% Asian/Pacific Islander
In the fall of 2007, the IGNITE program was introduced to Virginia public schools.
Ann Emerson, the School-to-Career Specialist in the Department of Instruction, and Kathy Burant, Director of Career & Technical Education with Stafford County Public Schools volunteered to start an IGNITE Chapter for Stafford County Schools. This spring the Stafford County IGNITE Chapter has planned three presentation events:
- March – five speakers involved in environmental, electrical and computer engineering, computer software and computer networking.
- April – a variety of tech career speakers, including computer networking
Mission Statement
The Stafford County IGNITE Chapter will provide opportunities, support, and encouragement for girls to change the stereotypical characteristics of high tech career choices.
