Expose the group to the career options that are available with the Virginia Department of Forestry and how those jobs encompass the use of technology. This is not a career path that most of our group has ever even thought about.
About the Virginia Department of Forestry
Virginia Department of Forestry was established in 1914 to prevent and control forest fires and to rebuild the forest. Today they are charged with protecting the forest from fire, to prevent injury or loss of human life, and to minimize property damage and protect resources. Some of the duties of a forester include:
- Forest Fire Suppression
- Forest Fire Prevention
- Prescribed Fire Management
- Law enforcement
- Woodland/Urban InterfaceInitiative
- Non-fire Emergency Readiness and Response
