The goal of the presentation was to make our girls aware of the different technology that is used by executives and various medical personnel at a community hospital.
About Southside Community Hospital
Southside Community Hospital was established in 1925 to provide medical services for the rich and poor of Prince Edward County. The original hospital officially open to the public in 1927 with forty beds at a cost of $180,000 to build and equip. The hospital continues to serve the county by providing high-quality healthcare.
Presenters
Dr. Gwen Eddleman, President and CEO of Southside Community Hospital
Dr. Eddleman grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina and began her healthcare career in a small hospital in Sylva, NC. Pursuit of advanced education took her to Charlotte to Central Piedmont Community College and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte for nursing degrees. She then obtained a Masters in Nursing Administration from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. Most recently, Gwen completed the degree requirements for a Doctorate in High Education Leadership with a focus in Healthcare Administration from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Her most recent work experiences have been as either a Chief Executive Officer or Chief Operating Officer in Acute Care Hospitals in several states, and she is currently serving as President and Chief Executive Officer for Centra Southside Community Hospital, as well as Senior Vice President for Centra Health.
She also serves as a Board member for the Prince Edward County Industrial Development Authority, Holly Manor Board of Directors, the Central Virginia Health Planning Agency, and serves on the Institution Review Board for Human and Animal research projects at both Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College.
Her other current and past appointments include: a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, a past Chairman of the Board of the South Carolina Heart Association, and past President of the South Carolina Organization of Nurse Executives.
